Fortunate Concierge have won the inaugural Trailblazer Cup and the cash prize of £1000 after defeating SnusBoys 1-0 in the grand final.
The 6-aside tournament saw 6 teams, representing local small businesses/brands, battle it out for the winner-takes-all prize pool, with finalists playing seven games over the course of the event. Each team played one another with a ten minute time limit/first to score 3 goals implemented, with four teams progressing to the knockout stages.
The first game of the tournament foreshadowed the finale as Fortunate Concierge and SnusBoys tangled in a cagey affair. There was no decisive winner this time round as they side drew 0-0.
Tournament hosts Concrete Jungle got off to a bad start with a 2-0 loss against Timeless Kettles who turned in a buss down worthy performance.
The boys at Crep Network will need to go back to the drawing board after conceding at least 2 goals in each game bar there 1-0 win against the tournament’s surprise package 2 Step Suppliers.
They definitely stepped up to the plate with their shooting boots doing the talking, taking 10 points from their group games tied with SnusBoys, closely followed by Fortunate Concierge whose iron defence didn’t concede a goal all tournament resulting in 9 points from the group stages and no losses.
Early showers were in store for Crep Network and unfortunately Concrete Jungle who both took home 4 points. Meaning that Timeless Kettles rounded off the Semi Final participants racking up 7 points in the group stage.
Our first semi final went to penalties after a 0-0 affair in regulation time. Much like Friday Night Football on Sky this game had some penalty controversy. Once tempers calmed Fortunate Concierge squeezed through to the final.
As previously mentioned they were joined by SnusBoys who cemented themselves as tournament top scorers with a decisive 1-0 win against Timeless Kettles.
With the £1000 looming over both teams heads, the last game of the day couldn’t have been more tense. A defensive error led to a chance for our eventual winners which was slotted home.
The defence held strong yet again, keeping a clean sheet on their way to victory.
